What is BOTOX?
Botulinum toxin type A is an injectable neurotoxin, better known under brand names such as Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®. Botulinum toxin type A— is a purified protein that is used in dentistry for both cosmetic and therapeutic applications. This is the most popular cosmetic procedure in both Canada and the USA and is used to smooth or soften dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are wrinkles that result from facial movements such as frowning, smiling, squinting or any other repetitive facial expression. The neurotoxin treatment works by blocking nerve impulses to the muscles causing them to relax. As a result, this softens the facial expressions and dynamic wrinkles for a period of time.
